Below you'll find the minimum specifications for your photo(s) to be used in your custom card design:
{Emailing Your Photos}
- Must be a jpg file
- Minimum resolution of 300 dpi
- Minimum size of 1200 x 800
- If your photo(s) is around 1 megabyte or more, it will probably be okay. If you are unsure about the specs above, please email me the photo(s) and I will be glad to evaluate it.
**Please DO NOT crop or edit your photo before sending it to me. This can alter the size of the photo and make it unusable on my end. I will take care of all cropping and editing. If you have specific preferences, please include those in the email with your order details.
{Mailing Your Photos}
- Minimum size must be 4 x 6
- Mail to address listed under contact section
- I will return your photo(s) to you with your order.
My recommendation is to always use a digital photo when possible. Once your photo is scanned, it loses quality that cannot be brought back. The better your photo is, the better your final card design will be.
{Get The Shot You Want}
Not sure how to take a great photo? Here are some helpful hints when it comes time to say "cheese".
Your Setting: Choose a brightly lit location. Using natural light will yield the best results. Try to refrain from taking photos at night, using the flash. Facing a large window that allows in lots of light or utilizing the great outdoors during the late afternoon or early morning is best.
Your Camera: Make sure your camera is set on the highest quality that it offers. This will guarantee that your photo will meet the required specifications. When saving it to your computer, make sure you choose the highest quality if given the option. Your photo(s) should be anywhere from 1-10 megabytes, depending on your camera. Not sure how to change the settings on your camera? See your user guide that came with your camera for help.
Your Photographer: If you are having someone else snap your photo, make sure to check for a focused, crisp image before calling it quits! Blurry photos are no good and cannot be reversed. If you are taking the photo yourself, consider using a tripod to keep the camera as stable as possible. Any little shaking can cause blur in the photo. If you are using a professional photographer, please make sure that you get their permission, in writing, to use the photos on your card. Most photographers will have a photo release form that they can email or mail to you. I must have a copy of that before I can use professional photos.
Your Attire: Putting some thought into what your family will wear really does pay off. Choose colors that compliment each other or neutrals such as gray. Remember, a great picture makes a great card!
You Should Avoid: dimly lit locations, lots of clutter in the background, and cropping out important body parts, like the tops of heads.
**If you have multiple photos and need help in deciding which one(s) to use, please email them to me, along with your preference of which one(s) to use. I will be glad to help you make the decision. Some photos will work better than others depending on the design of the card.
